I was so pumped when I saw that Five Guys had opened their first branch in Melbourne! Even though I’ve never been a big fan of burgers, but Billy loves them, I’m just always on the lookout for a good new place to visit. Thank goodness it isn’t too far from where we live, which made it easy enough to convince him come try out this legendary American cuisine with me last night.
FIVE GUYS MELBOURNE
HISTORY
Five Guys is a fresh, fast-food chain that has been around since 1986. The original location of this restaurant was in Virginia and it now operates in more than 1600 locations worldwide! You can find their delicious food made from only high quality ingredients such as homemade patties that they made from scratch, freshly baked buns which comes straight off a local bakery’s oven & hand cut potatoes that comes from a local farm, cooked daily using peanut oil without any microwaves or freezers involved!
In Australia itself, the Five Guys franchise operates by Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group who also runs The Meat & Wine Co which located right next door from the Melbourne branch in Freshwater PI, Southbank. This first two stores opened in Sydney last year, and has been getting well received feedback since then.
Location & SPACE
Five guys Melbourne is really easy to find, just look for the signature red-and-white name sign that says “FIVE GUYS” in the corner of Southbank Promenade, right across Queensbridge Square. The exterior may seem small from the outside, but they have a total of 79 seats inside and out. Their line moves fairly quickly too, so don’t worry about the waiting time, it’s honestly not that bad.
THE MENU
Billy picked up a bacon cheeseburger, and I got myself a cheeseburger. We both got the ALL THE WAY toppings since it’s free, so why not. It consists of : mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, grilled onions and grilled mushrooms.
We also got a tips from one of the staff while we were waiting in line, which is to share a large fries, because he said that they always give an extra scoop of fries inside of the paper bag, so there’s plenty to share. We were also getting only one drink because they have a refill station for a free top-up, this is actually quite a bargain.
THE SERVICE
The staffs are all looking very excited and welcoming for their opening day. A nice big smile, and overall giving friendly banter. I lost count on how many staffs were working in the whole joint, but in the kitchen, I believe they set a specific person for a specific task, which is terrific to see.
I was watching all of them operate, and it’s honestly super satisfying, like playing dinner dash. One person is toasting the buns, another one is cooking the patty, the next person is frying the potatoes, etc. They even have a specific person just to wrap the burgers!
The waiting time is approximately around 10-15 minutes max, and people come and go pretty quickly too. The person who’s in charge of calling out the customer’s number when their food is ready has such a nice loud voice, so there’s no way of losing track your order. I also noticed that there’s a staff standby on the floor to help cleaning out tables and wiping them up after each customers left. It’s just a great workflow system overall.
BACON CheeseBurger ($22)
Large Fries – FIVE GUYS STYLE ($9.9) & Soda Regular ($5.9)
Cheeseburger ($19)
Coming from someone who’s not into burgers, I’d say Five Guys’s burger is pretty great. The cheeseburger with ALL THE WAY toppings really hit the spot for me, it’s just a bursts of flavour in your mouth. What i loved about these ingredients was how mild they were so you could enjoy them together without feeling too overwhelmed, specifically the pickles and the onions.
I’ve read some people say that the burger patty is quite bland, but I actually prefer them in their original flavor like this. If you go look at sauce station, they have lots of salt and pepper sachets up for grabs. On the other hand though, the five guys style fries was stronger on the salty side for my personal taste, but there’s nothing that tomato ketchup can’t solve.
Overall, I enjoyed my dinner experience at Five Guys, and I want to congratulate them for the opening in Melbourne! I’m going to be back to try their Cajun Fries because apparently some people say it’s super tasty, and I’m also dying to try their Milkshake with bits of bacon in it. I’ll definitely update the post when I do.
I hope you guys enjoy this post, and please do share this to your friends if you find this helpful 🙂 Thank you for reading, and I’ll see you guys on my next one! xoxo
