Code Black Coffee is one of my favorite coffee in Melbourne. I had worked with it in the past when I was still working in Middletown and I think so far, nothing beats their Iced Oat Latte on a hot day. I’ve been telling everyone about it, I boast about it on my vlogs, I’m practically an actual living advertisement for them over the last summer.
Code Black Coffee HQ, Brunswick
I was recently in Brunswick and I decided to visit Code Black Coffee’s Head Quarter for a late lunch. From what I heard, they serve a great brunch selection, and I’m all here for it. This is my second time here, I remember the first time around, I went with Mona when she was visiting from Indonesia four years ago. It’s been quite some time since I was here last.
The venue in Brunswick is definitely the biggest one out of all the other branches in Melbourne. I couldn’t really explore the place since it’s already near their closing hour at the time, so some of the areas are closed for cleaning, but I feel like they can accommodate more than 100 people both in their indoor and outdoor seats.
The menu offers Melbourne style brunch, coffee in every kind of way, cakes, kids menu, even alcoholic drinks too. Their price ranged from $4.5 to $16 for drinks, and $14 to $25 for food, about the average for Melbourne Cafes. I ordered myself a seared Ora King Salmon and of course my favorite iced oat latte to go with it.
seared ora king salmon, white gazpacho, heirloom tomatoes, olive, crostini $25
The seared Ora King Salmon was slightly overcooked to my liking, but when you eat it together with the sauce and a bit of the salad, the flavours really go well together. The crostini was extra hard inside and out, it was sadly quite painful to eat.
The salad contains both chopped cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes & sliced cucumber. While the cherry tomatoes & the cucumber were cut into small pieces, the heirloom tomato was chopped into wedges, which in my opinion a little bit too big, and weren’t adding as good of a flavor as the cherry tomatoes.
Iced oat latte $6.3
The iced oat latte however, did not disappoint as usual. I really feel like Code Black Coffee blend and Oatly are a match made in heaven! The coffee was smooth and the Oat milk is creamy, just the right amount of balance.
Although I wasn’t really impressed with my Salmon dish, that doesn’t mean they’re bad as a whole business. It might be a one-off occasion where the food didn’t hit the spot, it happens everywhere. My coffee still tasted great, the atmosphere was relaxed & welcoming, the staffs were super friendly and accommodating too. Even though I was sitting outside, they kept making sure I had everything I needed throughout my meal.
I hope they keep improving in the future and I’m looking forward to have a better experience when I come there next time. Do you have a favorite coffee spot in Melbourne? Let me know in the comments below! Thank you for reading and I’ll see you in my next post, xoxo.
