Our Bar Surabaya First Impression!

One evening, my friend Yohan called, I haven’t seen him in a while, we haven’t been talking, so it was quite unusual. He asked me if I were in Surabaya or Jakarta, and when I said I was in Surabaya, he said, “Ok. Let’s go to Our Bar. I’ll pick you up now, go and get dressed!” I was like, “Whaaatt?!” But I agreed anyway, haha.

It’s definitely not the first time that my friend just call me out of the blue and ‘forced’ me to go out with them. Sometimes they would just show up outside my door and ‘kidnap’ me, I actually like the surprise element of this. But this time with Yohan, I felt the need to catch up and I demanded an update on what has been going on with his life.

I also happened to have never been to Our Bar before! So the excitement did escalate to another level. Now I feel like I’m more excited to go to Our Bar than to actually see Yohan, hahaha.. Jk Han! I missed you still!

Our Bar Surabaya

Our Bar is located in one of many heritage buildings on Embong Cerme road right in the heart of the city. It’s definitely giving a low-key vibe. I didn’t know what to expect when we first arrived, but once we got inside, the atmosphere really changed.

This is Our Bar’s waiting room, also known as the living room. If the space is fully booked when you arrive, you’ll have to wait here until it’s your turn to get in.

The ambiance of the indoor area makes you feel as if you’ve been transported back in time. Feels like I’m inside of a Texas bar in the 50s. You are free to smoke and have alcohol inside here, so if you’re someone who both smokes and drinks, then this is certainly the place for you!

But if you don’t like the smell of smoke, go to the outdoor seating area; it’s not as smoky. I usually sit outside because I love the vibe in Our Bar, but I can’t stand being around cigarette smoke—especially indoors.

I would rather have my table be outdoors since I always prefer nonsmoking areas, & the atmosphere is usually better there. You might feel a little humid sometimes, but it’s worth it for the experience. *Anyway, our table was actually inside* We got to sit right next to the stage where the house band performs! Their mic was super cool, it has that ’50 vibes –definitely something I loved about this place.

Maybe someday when the place is not so crowded  *which probably will never happen* I will try to sing on stage just for the fun of it, and to use that cool mic! Haha..

Baby Back Ribs & Potato Wedges

The baby back ribs and potato wedges served at Our Bar Surabaya are absolutely amazing! The ribs are so tender and juicy, and the potato wedges are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The combination of these two dishes is absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend trying it if you’re ever in here!

Because the area is near a lot of consulates, you’ll almost certainly find numerous foreigners socializing here. It had a great vibe about it; it’s a lot of fun and very much like being in Bali than in Surabaya.

I’m rating Our Bar with ★★★★☆
The vibe is immaculate, unpretentious atmosphere, making it perfect for socializing with friends. The food is amazing, the bar offers a wide selection of drinks and cocktails. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly, and they are happy to help you find the perfect drink. I highly recommend stopping by for a drink (or two) the next time you’re in Surabaya! Definitely will be back again, and again and again, hehe..
