When searching for 5000 Miles ULA, I stumbled across Into Coffee. It was only a minute away by foot from ULA and it had incredible reviews. But what really stood out to me was when I found out about their dedication towards sustainability. Nothing is ever wasted at this coffee shop and they are truly doing their part for preserving our environment. This is something I aspire to support more going forward so, of course I had to go – and thank goodness that I did!
Into Coffee Collingwood
Location & How to Get There
Into Coffee is a concealed gem in the south neighborhoods of Collingwood that (in my opinion) deserves more recognition. The most convenient way to get there is via tram number 109 or 12 on Collin St. from Melbourne CBD, and hop off at the Wellington St / Victoria Parade stop. From there it’s only five minutes stroll until you arrive. The shop looks like an antique garage from the outside with a sign that marks its entrance—you certainly won’t miss them!
Into Coffee’s focus on sustainability
Enjoying coffee and shopping sustainably while also making zero waste isn’t just some passing trend at Into Coffee. They take it seriously and are passionately committed to implementing smart practices with all of their products so that you can enjoy coffee, sangas and shop while still making a low impact to the earth.
To start, they have ingeniously created ways to transform milk waste into bar soap, and wasted printed dockets into these beautiful recycled paper — which are then used for labeling or loyalty cards. Wasted coffee grounds are of course, heavily sprinkled in these products. But that’s not all; their creative minds have even converted the used milk cartons into chic sling bags that are accessible through their sister brand, Into Carry.
In addition to their signature sling bags, Into Carry also offers stylish vests made entirely by hand from premium trashes! I personally find their style very unique and cool, definitely would love to rock these items one day.
One of their core values is the normalization of repairs; which is why with every purchase of their product, you’re entitled to a lifetime free service if your bag ever needed a fix. The shop itself displays a functional jukebox machine that looks like it came right out of the 1800s—something that’s quite remarkable to witness firsthand.
The unique decor and atmosphere
As I entered the shop, I was instantly captivated by its ambiance. You’ll find countless of healthy looking plants placed neatly across the big hall, and you can just tell that every piece of furniture was carefully chosen pre-loved items. None were alike, yet they all blended together harmoniously! I also learned that their benches were crafted from recycled milk cartons – another brilliant way to minimize environmental waste
From the pile of vintage magazines, the mini library, the antique chess table to the sound of old juke box machine combined with sewing machine noise in the background – this place is a serene paradise. Most people bring their laptops here while sipping coffee and crafting away quietly, which adds an extra layer of comfort. It’s no surprise this spot has such potential for getting work done with its relaxing atmosphere.
The Menu & Sangas
At Into Coffee, you can enjoy the renowned Industry Beans specialty coffee and top-grade organic dairy milk from Schulz. Additionally, into Coffee prides itself on its ethical responsibility to sustainability by offering Wallaby Meat (one of Australia’s most ethical and sustainable meat sources) in their signature Sangas – served with freshly grown herbs from their very own garden!
Instead of using traditional plastic milk bottles, Into Coffee has adopted The Udder Way’s innovative milk tap system using reusable kegs that can hold 18L of milk at once. They also give you an environmentally friendly way to take that same organic dairy home by renting out glass bottle jars for only $2, which will be given back when fully returned.
Although bringing your own coffee cup is highly recommended, don’t worry if you forgot to wash it last time. Into Coffee has a remarkable machine from Fresh Cup Australia that can quickly cleanse your cups in approximately 30 seconds, how amazing? Their takeaway cups are also an extraordinary option as they’re not only biodegradable but also edible, courtesy of Good Edi.
What I found really interesting on the menu was the fact that they offer ‘bulletproof’ coffee: an espresso shot blended with butter. As if that wasn’t already invigorating enough, you also have the option to add MCT oil or Mushroom powder for an added health boost and apparently great flavor to your cup of joe!
My Review of Their Coffee
Initially, I was tempted to give bulletproof coffee a go; but quickly change my mind after discovering that they used Industry Beans, so I decided on a safer option – oat magic. Meanwhile, Lawrence took the adventurous approach and requested their bulletproof coffee with MCT oil as well as mushroom powder – a most intriguing combination, and something that I anticipate seeing.
To be completely frank, I had found Industry Beans’ coffee too bitter to my personal liking. This came from 4x experiences; when I visited their HQ in Fitzroy, Their other branch in the CBD, Chadstone and over at Chez Dre who uses their beans. But to my very surprise, Into Coffee did their coffee so beautifully. It was rather smooth and creamy and it even brought back my faith to Industry Beans’ coffee!
Although I missed out on experiencing Lawrence’s Bulletproof creation due to it only being a tiny sip, I could smell the heavy notes of coconut from his coffee & he assured me that the flavor was as lovely as it smells. I’m definitely looking forward to try it next time!
Overall, it was such a blast visiting Into Coffee. If you’re looking for variety and sustainability in a cafe experience – this should be top on your list & I highly recommend that you go and check it out! I will definitely come back to try their Wallaby Sangas, Bulletproof Coffee, and maybe take home some goods from Into Carry too! Thank you so much for reading & I’ll see you next week <3
