Today’s adventure is brought to you by my good ‘ol friend Meg. I was just finishing up my shift at Gordon when she texted me saying that she was at Good Measure, a new coffee shop in Carlton. She told me that the place was cute and that I should join her if I weren’t doing anything, but little did she know that I was already sold when she said ‘it’s a new coffee shop’.

Good Measure
Pardon me if I never described how I feel whenever someone says, ‘there’s a new coffee shop’. Well, let me tell you now, the feeling is called BEYOND ECSTATIC!

How to Get There
It took me quite some time to get to Good Measure from the CBD, I had to take a tram up Swanston St and got off at Lincoln Square. Then, I walked down Lygon Street (which is known for its delicious Italian delicacy). At one point, I took a wrong turn, but with the help of Google Maps, I was back in the right direction and arrive at the premise within five minutes!
Meg sat in front of the bar as I came in, she was sipping her second coffee like a champ. I quickly looked around the joint and to my surprise, Good Measure is giving me such retro vibes, in a good way. I would say 25 should be the maximum capacity inside of this establishment, but I heard from one of the baristas, they’re going to expand the space further down to the back area and swap the cafe into a beer & wine bar at night!
Ambiance
That definitely explains why there are so many taps on the wall, and why the bar set-up seems more appropriate for a cocktail bar rather than a coffee shop, I really thought they were purely decorative! Another thing that I thought was decorative is the record player! But na-ah, it’s totally real and it’s working, in fact, they actually use it to play the music in Good Measure. Cool!
Service
At the time I was at Good Measure, it was scorching hot outside, and as soon as I sat in the bar, the first thing that the barista asked me was if I wanted still or sparkling water. I know that in most cafes this is a standard thing to do, but kudos to the team for being speedy, because I was dying of thirst. Oh, did I also mention that they served sparkling on tap? Amazing!
Mont Blanc Coffee
Visiting a new coffee shop in town, of course, wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t order a coffee. I scanned around the coffee bar trying to find out which roasters they go for, and I found that they went with Code Black Coffee, which is one of my favorite, fantastic! I asked Meg what did she order, she said she had their filter coffee and a Mont Blanc. Whoa, wait, say that again?
Apparently, Mont Blanc is one of Good Measure’s signature cold drinks. It’s a filter coffee-based iced drink, with dark sugar, a layer of cream, and a hint of freshly shaved orange zest & nutmeg on top. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Fortunately, it does tastes as good as it sounds, or looks! It is such a smooth, velvety drink that is refreshing and delicious at the same time!
But if we’re talking about my first love in here, I’d say it’s the Iced Oat Vanilla Latte! This is definitely not the first time that I had an iced vanilla latte, but this is the first time that I had a ‘WOW’ moment with it. Everything about it was super balanced, the coffee was well extracted, and it has a well-balanced ratio between the ice, the milk, the vanilla, and the sugar too. It’s really up there, honestly.
Also, as you can see in the photo above, there are actual vanilla beans visible inside the glass of Iced Vanilla Latte. This means they take their ‘Vanilla’ title seriously. Moreover, the oat milk that they used paired better than regular milk to me (I’m assuming it’s Oatly brand).
I’ve tried it with both types of milk and still find that oat milk tastes more flavorful–almost like a brown sugar iced vanilla latte. I simply can’t recommend this drink enough!
Sandwiches
I ordered a pastrami sandwich during one of my visits here. I’m not the biggest fan of sandwiches, but I was really hungry and it was all they had, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. They use sesame toast, which was nicely toasted—crispy bread and savory fillings. The only downside for me was that it felt quite oily, but I still smiled after finishing every last bite because it satisfied my hunger.
Overall, I love Good Measure! I love every little detail that they put into the setup of this space, the interior design, the nice plants, the record player, the Dyson cooler, the Weber grinder, the sparkling water on the tap, and even the cloth towel instead of paper towel in the toilet, things in here do feel bougie and intentional.
And of course, the menu. After visiting this venue so many times, I could see that they are serious with their craft. They measure out their drinks, spread out good vibes, and are passionate when talking about the menu and the business in general. So if you’re ever in the area, I would highly suggest you come and experience Good Measure for yourself.
And that concludes my post for the day. Thank you for reading the blog, comment down below what you think about Good Measure. Share this post with your friends if you want to take them there, and support me on Ko-Fi if you like! I appreciate your support so much, I’ll see you in my next one! xo
